Judges Critiques
Mrs. Sheila Ritchens
Dogs Judge
I would like to thank all involved for the hospitality shown to me which was very much appreciated. Also thanks to my cojudge, as we were both in total agreement on the awarding of the major honours. My DCC winners little sister won the BCC and BPIS was also from the same kennel.
Dog showing today has become more difficult than ever due to the economical situation, therefore, exhibitors who travel to dog shows should be treated by judges to unbiased honest opinions of their animals. It must have been a thrill for the top awards to go to the same kennel. What a good day this kennel had. One of the most consistent kennels, who has produced good type dogs over the years and today’s dogs were no exception.
Having not judged for a while, I found quality dogs in the younger classes. Movement unfortunately has deteriorated substantially due to sloppy fronts and close rear movement and as sound, powerful movement is paramount to our breed, I was very disappointed in some dogs that I would otherwise have placed highly. My DCC had all I was looking for, with that added ring presence that makes a show dog. I am in no doubt this dog will gain his title. Very well done.
MPD (7.1)
1st . Chappell Selmalda Koochie Ryder. This smart well proportioned fawn baby of 7 ½ months was expertly handled to show off his virtues. Excellent head, with length of foreface, alert expression and dark eyes. Clean neck with length that flowed into well set shoulders. Straight front with ample bone, good top line and croup with correct tail set. Well angulated rear which allowed positive rear action but front movement was as yet loose which lost him BPD, however he has time on his side and I am sure he will go from strength to strength.
2nd . Jaques and Kirby Jacquir Kiss By A Rose. Raw harlequin baby of 6 months at his first show. Well marked with clean white background. Correct shaped head, narrow back scull with ample length of foreface, nothing overdone in any way. Clean eye shape with inquisitive expression. Nice length of neck with good shoulders. Lovely straight front with ample
width. Topline good, held on the move. Correct tail set. Really good angulation to rear. Moved like a 6 month old puppy but showed a positive stride with determination. Still very much a baby compared with 1st, but has everything going for him at this stage.
3rd . Pepper Leamap Black Sabbath With Sarawen.
PD (8,2)
1st .Baker Vanmore Super Ken Of Preveli. This outstanding fawn puppy stood out in this class. Such a typical head, with dark eye, alert expression, parallel plains with good ear set. Super length of clean neck into good shoulder placement. Lovely fore chest, with length of leg. Good spring of rib, slightly long in topline but good tail set and width of croup. Lovely bend of stifle and well rounded rear. Moved around the ring with good extension and accuracy, for one so young. This puppy has everything in the right place and was happy to award him BP and BPIS. Well done.
2nd . Collett Foaldown Secret Quest. Heavier fawn than 1st, with stronger head. Well filled front with good width. Correct shoulders. Good angulation fore and aft. Strong topline and good tail set.
3rd . Bishton Jaydania Harry Zona.
JD (9,2) Most promising class of the day. 1st . Morgan Evans Vanmore Raphael. Superb fawn, not overdone in any way. Another typical, well balanced head from this kennel, which he proudly carried. With correct plains, length of fore face, depth of muzzle, dark eye, good bite. Lovely length of neck which handler showed to advantage. Well set shoulders, width of chest, with length of leg and straight bone and tidy feet. Level topline if a tad long. Spot on angulation with developed second thigh, which led to controlled, precise movement. This was a well deserved CC winner and BIS. The quality, grace
and elegance of this youngster was there to be seen, with no mistaking his masculinity and can only improve with age. Well done, I have no doubt he will go on to gain his title.
2nd . Giffords Highesteem Lochsong at Danetime. This rather raw dark brindle lacked in maturity to 1st but his quality shone through. Taller than 1st, with rangier frame that he is now starting to grow into. Another good shaped head, with length and depth with no coarseness. Correct bite, dark eye, and arched neck with length. Straight legs with good upper arm length, giving good extension to front movement, matched with angulation and strength to rear. Level topline. Sound movement. Moved with drive and power. Liked him a lot, preferred overall maturity of 1st. One to be reckoned with in the future.
3rd. Jacobs Vanmore Never Say Never to Kazabbie.
YD (11,2)
1st. Whitehouse Rosenbach Justin Time. Well grown, rich brindle male that is nicely marked. Masculine head with good length of fore face and depth to muzzle. Slightly wide in back scull, but does not detract from overall picture. Dark eye, good bite, strong neck with good shoulder placement. Well filled front, good topline and tail set. Strong loin with well muscled second thigh. Moved with confidence, with the condition I was looking for but lost out to CC winner on style and type but was happy to award him RCC. Well done.
2nd . Nayar Kenmanilo Games Master. Stronger head than 1st. Alert expression. Dark eye. Width of chest, good shoulders. This short coupled dog has width of croup and correct tail set. Hard muscle tone throughout. Moved ok.
3rd . Scott Akura Hugo The Brave.
ND (5,2)
1st .Giffords Highesteem Lochsong at Danetime.
2nd .Spurgeon Ravendane Love Shack. Powerful head on this well built mantle. Slightly loose in eye. Strong neck. Not as good in shoulder as 1st. Well filled chest. Level topline but drops off in tail set. Well muscled rear with well developed second thigh. Did not move with the drive of 1st.
3rd. Woods Xtraspecialdelivery of Austria Great Stars Alsphuzazz.
PGD (10,7)
1st. Flanagan Danemoor Tancred. This dog caught my eye on entering the ring. Big impressively made fawn. Correct shape and width of head, with depth of muzzle and kind eye. Nice reach of neck with width across shoulders. Straight front with ample width. Topline maintained on the move, with correct tail set, croup and good angulation. Moved with reach and drive. Just lost his sparkle in the challenge, otherwise a good, honest male.
2nd . Mansell Jones Droolakiss Ezz Tiger. Tall brindle, fair head, dark eye, alert expression. Fair neck but a little heavy across shoulder. Short length to back and preferred topline of 1st. Well muscled condition. Did not move with the strength of hind movement of 1st.
3rd . Warings Ravendane Equinox at Elleyenda.
LD (9,1) A difficult class, such a variety of types.
1st .Bithells Bourntwyn Faithfull and True. Fawn who presented a good head with length of foreface, deep muzzle with dark eye and quizzical expression. Expertly handled to show a clean neck with length. Correct shoulder placement and good width and fill of chest. Topline slightly long, well muscled rear, with good second thigh. Moved with confidence.
2nd . Wiltshire Ladymere Sultan of Swing. Much larger fawn with heavy head. Not the elegance of 1st. Straight bone with depth of chest. Prefer shoulder placement of 1st. Shorter topline and wider in croup. Moved ok.
3rd . Ryans and George, Arondyke All Work and No Play.
VD (7,1) A lovely class of dogs whose overall movement put a lot of the younger dogs to shame.
1st .Bliss Stagbatch Soulmate For Life. Well made, well marked Harlequin. Strong masculine head with parallel plains and square drop of lip. Adequate neck into good lay of shoulders. Straight bone, short coupled body, with good topline. Width of stifle and angulation which he used to move around the ring with drive and power. Best veteran well deserved.
2nd . Teese Selmalda Stay Free at Teeseedane. Another well made powerful dark fawn dog, with a strong head of good length. Nice width to front with straight bone. Excellent depth to ribcage. Good muscle tone and second thigh. Moved with strength and enthusiasm, if a bit over proud of his tail carriage. Seems to get better with age. Two very sound dogs.
3rd . Flanagan Soupury Shaken Not Stirred.
O BRINDLE (4,1)
1st . Mansell and Jones Droolakiss Ezze Tiger.
2nd . Bickford and Durie Leyshan Portias Happy Lad at Psuedemore. Substantial male, masculine head. Well filled front. Strong neck with ample angulation fore and aft. Longer cast than 1st with lower set tail.
3rd . Lawson and Hunter Droolakiss Manson.
O FAWN (2,1)
1st . Jaydania Dean Martin. Imposing, all male fawn. Masculine head with dark eye. Good clean neck with length. Depth to ribcage. Slightly overdone in front. Strong topline tailing off in croup. Good strength to rear with nice muscle tone.
O BLACK (2)
1st . Battersby and Williams Ch Internos Challenger. Well made male, presenting a clean outline and shown in tip top condition. Proportioned head. Good drop of lip but not overdone in any way. Would just prefer more stop. Strong clean neck into well set shoulders. Excellent depth and width of forechest. Strong bone and tight feet. Level topline just slightly low in tail set. So well muscled throughout, with the truest of movement both coming and going, tad more rear extension would just finish the picture. This dog was an easy winner of this class. Has ring presence in abundance.
2nd Bates Danemoor Black Prince. Younger male than 1st. Head proportions longer throughout. Good length of neck but not width or depth of chest as 1st. Slightly long cast in body. He has level topline and good tail set. Well muscled rear with ample angulation. Not the movement of 1st.
O BLUE (8, 2) This was a hard class to assess. 1st . Peppers Baron of Skye Via Leamap. Masculine head, but not overdone. Well filled front with depth of brisket. Straight bone, with good width of croup and correct tail set. Well muscled rear with length of second thigh. Shown in good hard condition. Was VHC in post graduate but won this class on exuberant movement.
2nd . Battersby Internos the Heavyweight. Well constructed dog with good head. Not overdone or wide in back scull. Good bone structure. Preferred neck and shoulder placement to 1st. Ample spring of rib. Short coupled body with strong topline, although slightly low in croup. Well toned rear. Impressive standing, but did not move with the drive of 1st today.
3rd . Woodfine Jildadanes Blue Lad.
O HARLEQUIN (2,1)
1st . Battersby and Williams Internos Arizona. This boy, although not the biggest or showiest is so well balanced. Standing four square, he has a head which has no coarseness or exaggeration. Short muzzle, parallel lines, with tight eyes. Strength of neck with width across shoulders and fore chest. Hard topline which he kept on the move, slightly low in croup but with good width. Well muscled rear, ample angulation. Powered around the ring, another true and precise mover both coming and going. His freedom of movement was a joy to watch. This was the movement I was looking for. Well deserved his first place.
O MANTLE (5, 2)
1st . Beresford Inkspotts the Domino Effect. Tall very smart elegant dog with no loss of masculinity. Good shaped head with length and no exaggeration, with good eye shape. Clean lengthy neck. Shoulder set ok with width of chest and plenty of depth through his ribs. Well angulated hind quarters, level topline, slightly low in tail set. Hard well conditioned muscle to rear, with length of second thigh. Won this class on powerful ground covering stride.
2nd . Warings Ravendane Equinox at Elleyenda. Shorter coupled dog. Another good head, masculine but not overdone. Correct shape and width, long flowing neck into well filled front and depth of chest. Super well muscled rear. Lost out on movement to 1st with occasional erratic movement but angulation and power from good length of leg was all there. Shown in gleaming condition as always.
3rd . Stapleford Madjax the Lothario.
OD (3,1)
1st . Booths Ch Kenmanilo Total Magic. Fawn with classic head with good proportions and no exaggeration. Another kennel who are constant with the correct type of Dane. Tight eye, good bite. Excellent length of neck with good width of shoulders. Fore chest slightly pronounced. Straight bone. Excellent balance from shoulder and hind quarters. Good tail set and width to rear. Well developed muscle tone. Another who held his shape while moving with drive and power around the ring. Well handled to make the final four.
2rd . Dewane Stegill Heavy Hogwater. Taller fawn with good length to head, with depth of muzzle and dark eye. Clean neck with length. Adequate width of chest with good depth. Straighter shoulders and hind angulation than 1st. Level topline and correct tail set. Mature body shown in good hard condition, enabling him to move with power and drive.
3rd . Bishtons Jaydania Fred Astire
Michael Von Bruggenburg-Rothschild (Merribox)
Bitches Judge
Thank you to the committee for asking me to judge bitches at this show, where BIS was Morgan’s-Evans Vanmore Rahael, RBIS Jacobs Vanmore I’ve Arrived at Kazzabie and BPIS Baker’s Vanmore Super Ken at Preveli. I was pleased that my Co judge – Sheila Ritchens and I agreed on all our joint decisions. Was also interesting to see that both our CC’s winners were
litter brother and sister and both 1st CC’s.
Overall there were some quality bitches and all had good temperaments with the exception of a couple I couldn’t really go over and no one could describe me as over handling when I judge, so not sure why they decided to play up. I was quite shocked with eyes and the state of some of them, these really need to be watched … I saw many fleshy haws, 3rd eyelids half over the eyes, some very light eyes, and many with what appeared to be swollen red eyes.

Beautiful dark well shaped eyes giving a kind gentle expression. Good mouth. Well arched neck into a good front with good depth to brisket and well developed forechest. Good topline and quarters. Lovely outgoing happy temperament taking her day all in her stride. Lost out to the MPB as she just going through a bit of a coat change and preferred the rear drive of the younger puppy. OPEN BITCH (3,0)
1. BISHTON’S CH.GARSAK JODIE OF JAYDANIA. A favourite of mine and one I have always admired. Lovely elegant fawn of great size and substance but still retains great style and elegance. Loved her rich red fawn colour. Lovely head with good head planes and length to foreface, defined stop and good drop of lip. Lovely dark well shaped eye and kind gentle expression. Lovely dark pigmentation. Well arched neck into a good topline and croup and well angulated quarters. Moved out effortlessly covering the ground well. Would have preferred her to carry just a tad more condition. Won this class with ease but just lost the same sparkle in the lineup and had to give way to the 2 youngsters but a lovely bitch well worthy of her title.
2. BITCHELL’S CH.BOURNTWYN IN MY DREAMS JW. Smaller and paler type to one. Lovely feminine head with good head planes and length to foreface, Good drop of lip. Well balanced in outline with good quarters and covers the ground well.
3. PEPPER’S LEAMAP BLACK VELVET WITH SARAWEN JW.
